DIY semi-permanent manicure: A beginner’s guide

Here are some tips and tricks that you may not know that will help you achieve perfect, long-lasting manicures like a pro. Ready to love semi-permanent manicure as much as we do?

Follow these instructions for a perfect manicure:

1. File the edge and surface of your nail. Using our electric nail file will be a good choice.

2. Apply a very thin layer of semi-permanent polish.

3. Let it dry under the LED lamp for 30 seconds.

4. Apply a second layer of polish and dry under the lamp again.

5. Repeat this process for each of your nails and you’re done!

Prep Your Nails

Having a good base coat before you paint your nails can make or break your manicure. After pushing back your cuticles and filing your nails and surface, clean off any dirt and oils with a non-acetone nail polish remover. Don’t touch anything after cleaning off the dirt and oils.

Paint a Thin First Coat

The first coat should be super thin! To apply this first thin coat, remove any excess material from the brush by wiping it on the edge of the bottle. The second coat can be a little thicker and even though most of our gels only require 2 coats for full coverage, it is always better to paint 3 thin coats rather than 2 thick coats.

Avoid shrinkage

Due to its texture, it is normal for gel polish to shrink sometimes. To avoid this, do not let the gel polish take too much air. A good rule to follow: If the brush is not on the nail, the nail must be in the lamp. Remember to paint your nails one at a time. Also, painting your entire nail, all the way to the tip and covering the edge, makes it easier to shrink.

Correct mistakes before curing

Many mistakes happen, but make sure to clean up any imperfections before curing. Gel polish cures dry under the LED lamp, so if you get polish on your skin/cuticles and cure it, it won’t come off. Use the opposite end of the cuticle stick or our Le Round brush dipped in acetone to clean any polish off your cuticles before curing.
